Hello
I'm John, a software and data engineer living in Denver, Colorado and currently attending school for electrical engineering. In my free time I enjoy exploring and learning through programming, making software for music, riding my moped, and puzzles of any kind. Drop me a line if you want to argue about Star Trek.
Usage of AI
I follow a pretty simple set of rules when it comes to AI usage in programming:
- If it's fun and I want to do it, I do it myself
- If I'm learning, I do it myself
- If it's in one of my areas of interest like music or signal processing, I also do it myself
- If it's rote chore-like work in any project, all bets are off
Otherwise, I do generate software using LLMs on occasion. It's kind of wild that you can do that.
I also have a simple rule when it comes to generation of content using AI in creative pursuits like writing, music, images or other forms of art:
- I don't do it
Not a judgement, really, I just enjoy engaging in these activities and don't find that AI adds anything when it's performing the work for me.
